The crime of Kim Gómez, the 7-year-old girl murdered by criminals in La Plata, still causes shock and once again raises concerns about the increase in insecurity in the city, especially in the hands of minors.
The little girl died after two thieves stole the family vehicle, which was parked in front of a wholesale supermarket at the intersection of 72 and 24. The criminals took the car with the girl inside, and after a few blocks, the girl tried to get out but fell onto the asphalt, ended up under the wheels, and was run over and dragged several meters.
Dozens of neighbors gathered in the area to demand greater security and the arrest of those responsible, which finally happened a few hours later. In this context, on Tuesday night, two minors, aged 17 and 14, were apprehended after a wide and intense police operation.
For some time now, La Plata has been suffering one of the most striking crises: insecurity in the hands of minors. News regarding thefts, homicides, and injuries in the city is linked to criminal gangs in which teenagers are involved. Nevertheless, despite police efforts, the justice system releases them for being unaccountable, and thus, some often have more entries to police stations and prosecutor's offices than age.
